Detailed design of the Haifa East operational railway center and marshalling yard in the city of Haifa

  • Preparation of detailed bills of quantity, cost estimates and tender documents.

The Israel Railways (IR) Haifa East Operational Centre, located in the Haifa downtown area, is the northern centre of IR two main operational hubs. It consists of railway depot, shunting yards and various service installations, as well as railway accesses to the Haifa Port. Its right of way and initial installations originate from the 1920-40s during the British Mandate in Palestine;
Recently (since the mid 1990s), due to a massive development of the IR, it required significant upgrade and expansion.

The project consists of a thorough reorganization of the entire facility, with main components as presented below:


Construction of tracks:
  • New tracks and upgrade/rehabilitation of existing tracks.
  • Service tracks (for fueling and cargo handling).
  • Car wash facility tracks.
  • Stabling tracks.
  • Train arrangement tracks.
  • Train depot tracks.
  • Two new tracks on the Haifa-Tel Aviv main railway line.
Construction of various facilities and installations:
  • Operational building and structures.
  • Refueling installations.
  • Car wash facilities.
  • Various service installations: water, sewerage, power, communications, illumination, etc.
  • Transforming stations for newly planned facilities.
  • Site drainage, including culverts to drain the site crossing streams.

TEDEM has been chosen as the project principal consultant, including the coordination of all other multidisciplinary consultants participating in the design process.
