The CHECK-POST zone is located in the Haifa Bay Area and is one of the busiest in the whole metropolitan area. It is a large commercial and industrial zone with many wholesale and retail facilities, storage depots, personal service businesses and numerous light industry facilities. Located nearby a main coastal road (Route 4), it attracts heavy traffic volume with high share of heavy traffic. Being located on a clay plain terrain with a high groundwater level and very close to the sea shore and level, the whole area suffers from serious drainage problems.

The project involves a thorough rehabilitation and renovation of the whole road system in the area, meanwhile maintaining continuous accessibility to all activities. It involves the scarification of the entire asphalt layer throughout the zone with new pavement, and in many cases excavation of the road structural layers replacing them with new ones. By this occasion, all underground systems are revised for upgrade, repair, renovation and relocation (as applicable).
TEDEM has been chosen as the project principal consultant, including the coordination of all other multidisciplinary consultants participating in the design process; on top of that, TEDEM supervises the project execution on a top oversight level. Within this framework the company has been providing the following services:
  • Detailed physical design of all rehabilitated roads, including relocation and modifications of: paved areas layout, curb stones, sidewalks, on-the-street parking, etc.
  • Detailed traffic and geometrical design, including application of interim arrangements during works duration.
  • Detailed drainage design.
  • Coordination of detailed design of all aspects related to infrastructure systems renovation: power lines, sewerage, water supply, communications, irrigation, culverts, etc.
