The city of Haifa, Israel third largest city and the core of the Haifa Metropolitan Area, is since the beginning of the 1990s under a massive development. The region's transportation infrastructure has been developed in a rapid pace and many new business complexes are being promoted and constructed.
One the key projects in this context is the Government City located in the downtown area. This huge urban compound, inaugurated in the early 2000s, houses several governmental agencies (such as the District and Magistrates Courts, the National Insurance Institution (Social Security), Ministry of Finance and many other district headquarters of governmental and public bodies. The main reason behind this project was to concentrate these offices, previously dispersed in various locations around the city, in one newly designed location; furthermore, to strengthen the land use activity in the downtown area which has significantly deteriorated. |
