The Israel Railways (IR) Haifa East Operational Centre, located in the Haifa downtown area, is the northern centre of IR two main operational hubs. It consists of railway depot, shunting yards and various service installations, as well as railway accesses to the Haifa Port.
Its right of way and initial installations originate from the 1920-40s during the British Mandate in Palestine; |
Recently (since the mid 1990s), due to a massive development of the IR, it required significant upgrade and expansion.
